Sam Walker was attacked for mocking a serial killer

Comedian Sam Walker probably never expected the government to take issue with him mocking a convicted serial killer, but having been weaponized as a joke before and been targeted by activists, escalation seemed inevitable.

Walker is part of a comedy troupe called the Danger Cats, which has been in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. Of course, in the comedy world, being canceled isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but the government doesn’t usually comment on comedians’ jokes either.

The Danger Cats first ran into their ever-angry activist enemies when group member Brendan “Uncle Huck” Braquier made a joke about Native American residential schools run by the Catholic Church. The roast battle joke is years old, but a Facebook video has dug the 10-second joke out of its archives, sparking new outrage.

The Danger Cats and the venues that hosted them faced death threats, arson threats, and other threats of violence in response to the joke.

“We’ve been to all the cities they don’t want us in,” Walker told Blaze News. He continued that constant silent threats from “Bolshevik censors” trying to crush “subversive ideas” make comedian “the most dangerous profession in the world right now.”

It may sound like an exaggeration, but during the Danger Cats fiasco, not only did government-funded media act as arbiters of the jokes, but sitting government officials also demanded that the comedians apologize.

Walker also said “government-paid activists” were committing fraud to obtain funds for their fight.dislikeThe same group took offense and targeted another old joke.

“The comedians are watching in utter horror and trepidation at what is happening to us.”

According to Walker, just as the previous jokes sparked completely unrelated protests, the pro-government media chose jokes about serial killers and merchandise to continue their mob attack in an attempt to get the comedians to cancel more shows.

“For four or five years, I’ve been telling jokes about Robert Pickton. People have forgotten about this guy. He went to prison in about 2006, was convicted of six murders, and is serving a life sentence,” he explained. “I like to draw people’s attention to very dark and scary things and make jokes about them to take away their power. And about a year ago, I commissioned a designer to make a T-shirt design. And then as his parole approached, politicians hit the panic button and shifted the blame by putting the responsibility on us. They focused on the T-shirts and condemned us as bad, scary people.”

Pickton was convicted of the second-degree murder of six women in 2007 and was reportedly accused of killing 20 more people before his charges were suspended in 2010.

T-shirts mocking murderers featured on government broadcaster CBCpointed to a petition that garnered just 2,000 signatures as evidence of widespread anger toward the comedy group.

“This group is known for profiting off the tragedy of serial killer Willie Pickton by producing and selling shirts that exploit murdered and missing Indigenous women and other women he victimized,” the petition states. “Their actions also include residential schools and mass graves of Indigenous people, which is completely unacceptable.”

As protesters stood outside the venue in Vancouver, Canada, a third member of the group, Brett Forte, mocked the protest leaders for only having three minutes of material.

“It’s hard to fill a 10-minute set. Three minutes and she’s out. So, she understands now it’s a tough job. Now she’s stretching, now she’s trying to deal with the crowd. It’s not an easy job,” he joked.

“Deeply” disappointed with government

“The government media started slandering and smearing us without any evidence,” Walker said. “They have no proof that we committed any crimes or anything like that. We can’t tell any of the jokes that we do,” Walker elaborated. But his explanation does seem plausible.

The government report alleged that Danger Cats’ stand-up comedy included derogatory remarks about residential school survivors. Not only were the old remarks never part of stand-up comedy, but they also did not derogate to anyone other than the comedians onstage. Consistent misinformation about the jokes led to eight show cancellations, arson threats, and even elected officials speaking out about the comedians.

British Columbia Premier David Eby took the unprecedented step of speaking to the comedians in an official capacity at a press conference.

“I hope this group will think carefully about this sad attempt at humor and apologize to the victim’s family, as they are the ones they have truly hurt,” Eby said. Hope Standard.

“I have seen the T-shirts being promoted by this group and all I can say is it is such a shame that such disregard is shown for the lives of vulnerable women. The fact that these women, who had families and friends, were murdered and then their lives were disregarded and they were deemed worthless is one of the reasons why Mr Pickton was able to murder them for so many years with impunity.”

The government’s official platitudes haven’t swayed Walker, who said he realized he was getting on people’s nerves when he found time between his busy days giving government-funded drugs to middle-schoolers and counting fentanyl overdoses in the morgue.

“Apparently he’s the country’s connoisseur of stand-up comedy and he came to us asking for an apology for a joke he’d never heard. His little minions wrote it in pencil and handed him a Coles note.”

“It’s all about the servitude of the ruling class. They want the second-class citizens of this country to do their bidding and be obedient.”

Despite the group’s highly publicised achievements, Walker said few comedians have voiced their support for the group, fearing that if their jokes “don’t get picked up by the Thought Police or the Rainbow Brigade”, they will come under scrutiny from the government or activists.

“The comedians are watching in absolute fear and horror as they see what’s happening to us… and that they’ll be in the exact same situation as us,” Walker explained.

The migration crisis is a skills crisis

After years of working as a contractor, Walker got a job preparing for the 2010 Winter Olympics, not as an athlete, though he says he could have done so if he had wanted.

After the Olympics, Walker returned to work, but something had changed: wages were significantly lower, and the majority of employees on housing construction and other projects were foreign workers.

“I looked around the industry and what was happening was that certain nationalities or groups were importing large amounts of unskilled labor, and these workers were showing up in teams of 10 or 20, working for a few cents an hour, a few dollars a day.”

Mr Walker added that standards had dropped significantly and poor quality products were being produced.

“They underbid every major construction project in the Lower Mainland. [of British Columbia] At that time, I was making hundreds of thousands, maybe millions, of dollars less. I went from making a living wage to barely being able to survive.”

The comedian echoed the arguments of many critics of immigration: not only are immigrants themselves exploited and given false promises, but mass immigration also dilutes the labour market with an influx of “cheap, unskilled foreign labour” that is causing entry-level jobs to disappear, he added.

“It’s all about servitude to the ruling class,” Walker continued. “They want the second-class citizens of this country to do their bidding and be obedient. This is a country of immigrants, but you speak the language, you obey the laws, you are skilled workers, you contribute something, and these people just take, take, take. People are very upset about this because it’s visually jarring to see the lower classes coming out of the shadows.”
