Juror 16 Excused from Hunter Biden Trial Before Opening Statements

Judge Maryellen Noreika excused juror No. 16 in Hunter Biden’s firearms trial after he explained in an email to the court on Tuesday that he would not be able to attend the trial due to an hour’s travel time.

Juror No. 16 qualified on Monday after testifying in court that she first learned about the case on YouTube. Said Her mother owns guns but “was unaware of the paperwork and procedures required to purchase a gun in Delaware,” NBC News reported.

The juror will be replaced by a substitute juror, but it was not immediately clear who would take her place.

The current alternatives are:

  • #50: Women who served on multiple juries
  • #52: A female government expert says laws regulating gun ownership should be “stricter.”
  • #53: A woman listens to the news from her “father” and X.
  • #65: A woman who has donated to Barack Obama

Jury selection concluded Monday afternoon, with 12 jurors selected, including one woman who worked for the Secret Service. The jury is evenly split between men and women. The four alternate jurors are all women.

Special Counsel David Weiss’s office had planned to begin opening statements at 9 a.m. Tuesday, but not all jurors showed up to court on time, NBC News reported. report:

Just before 9 a.m., Judge Noreika began considering a ruling on what evidence would be allowed, suggesting that certain texts, photos and portions of Hunter Biden’s memoir, “Beautiful Things,” would likely be released in court today.

There are several photographs that could be cited as evidence showing Hunter Biden in certain places on certain days. For example, there was mention of a photo of him in Malibu, California, and a photo of his back one day in Wilmington.

Noreika initially didn’t understand why the photos were relevant. “Can you give me a hint as to what he’s doing in Malibu and why I would care?” she asked. Prosecutor Derek Hines said the purpose was to put Hunter in a particular location.

Prosecutors said their first witness will be FBI Special Agent Erica Jensen of ABC News. reportThe first witness is expected to present evidence of Hunter Biden’s text messages and related excerpts from his 2021 memoir, “Beautiful Things.”

Hunter Biden’s wife, Melissa Cohen Biden, his mother-in-law, First Lady Jill Biden, and Hollywood lawyer Kevin Morris are scheduled to attend Tuesday’s hearing, according to a court reporter.
