Barbara Hoffman reportedly participated in the ride for the first time since Cynthia’s death in 2019, as she was just beginning to process her grief. The ride included stops in the area where Cynthia Hoffman was murdered. Cynthia Hoffman and her five siblings had developmental disabilities but were well cared for, the media reported.

Prosecutors alleged that Cynthia Hoffman’s best friend, Denali Bremer, four other teenagers and one young man “intentionally caused the death of Cynthia Hoffman” on or about June 2, 2019. According to court documents.

Bremer, then 18, was in an online relationship with Darin Schilmiller, then 21, of Indiana. Schilmiller used fake photos and a false name to pose as “Tyler,” a wealthy Kansas man, while Bremer called himself “Angel.” The two allegedly discussed raping and murdering someone in Alaska. Prosecutors allege Schilmiller promised Bremer at least $9 million to kill someone and send him photos and videos of the murder. Bremer allegedly knowingly recruited four friends into the scheme: Caleb Leyland, then 19; Kayden McIntosh, then 16; and two minors.

Bremer allegedly drove Hoffman, Leyland and McIntosh in Leyland’s vehicle to Thunderbird Falls in Chugiak, Alaska, on what he called a hike. They allegedly bound Hoffman and gagged him with duct tape in a vacant lot off the road near the Eklutna River, before McIntosh shot and killed Hoffman with Bremer’s gun. Prosecutors allege the trio then dumped Hoffman’s body in the river, and Bremer sent Schilmiller videos and photos of the murder. They destroyed some of Hoffman’s personal belongings, and Bremer texted Hoffman’s family members that he had dropped him off at Polar Bear Park in Anchorage, the charges continue. Bremer also allegedly deleted chats with Schilmiller.

Prosecutors argued that Bremer, Leyland, McIntosh and Schilmiller all later admitted to their involvement in the crimes during separate police interviews. Schilmiller also allegedly admitted to plotting other murders with Bremer and to trying to blackmail Bremer into raping her after killing Hoffman.
