Women’s rights, and freedom of speech, continue to be violated in the name of transgender rights.
The latest blow comes from Oberlin College, where administrators fired Kim Russell from her job as women’s lacrosse coach because she dared to voice the most controversial opinion: that men don’t belong in women’s sports.
In March 2022, Russell shared an Instagram post congratulating Emma Weyant for being “a real woman who won” in the NCAA 500-yard freestyle after she placed second to Leah Thomas, a man who identifies as a woman.
At the beginning of the post, Russell commented: “What do you believe? I cannot stay silent on this subject… I have spent my life in sports and helping to set up and lead sports programs for girls and women…”
A student reported her comments to university officials, and Oberlin’s athletic director demanded that Russell write a letter of apology.
Russell refused.
Pat Gray jokes that Russell is clearly a “danger to society,” but Oberlin College is not joking.
“You are allowed to have your own opinion, but if it goes against what Oberlin believes, it will hinder your employment,” Craig Jantz, Oberlin’s senior associate director of athletics, was quoted as saying.
“It means that they don’t really believe that having their own opinion is important or that it’s acceptable,” Gray said, calling it “unbelievable.”
