Secret Service opens up about Travis Kelce White House ‘tased’ comment

Travis Kelsey may have been a little worried about getting too close to the presidential podium at the White House recently for fear of being shot with a Taser, but the Secret Service said the comment was all in jest.

Kelce said both during the Chiefs’ visit to the White House last Friday and on the “New Heights Podcast” released Wednesday that Secret Service agents warned the star tight end that they were “authorized” to use a Taser on him if he tried to approach the podium.

But Kelsey was never in danger of becoming an enemy of the Secret Service. publicist Nathan Herring told People magazine on Wednesday.

“Our agents and officers were happy to support Travis and the Chiefs on their official visit to the White House and presented them with Secret Service pin badges,” Herring told the outlet. “Regarding the Taser comment, we have some passionate football fans in our organization and Travis and our officers were engaged in a friendly exchange.”

Of course, Kelce had a shot at making it onto the podium in 2023 when the Chiefs were in the mix.

But before he could say much, he was picked off by Patrick Mahomes in the final moments.

This year, President Joe Biden invited Kelsey to the podium.

“My fellow Americans, it’s good to see you again,” Kelsey said, but then lost steam, telling Biden that the Secret Service had warned him they would use a Taser on him.

During the podcast this week, Kelsey said that “we, or maybe five members of the Secret Service” approached him during the visit.

“When you get up to that podium, we have the authority to Taser you. … In fact, there’s an order for us to Taser you,” Kelsey said on the show.

Kelce’s brother, former Eagles center Jason Kelce, tried to reassure Kelce that there was probably no danger if the president invited him.

“I don’t know, I was just curious,” Kelsey said. “I was like, dude, I’m about to get tasered. They warned me! Joe, you set me up, you motherfucker.”
