Rep. Morgan Luttrell (R-Texas) has introduced a bill that would require the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to record crimes committed by immigrants released into the U.S. through President Joe Biden’s parole plan.
This week, Luttrell introduced the Criminal Immigration Reporting Act, which would require the Department of Homeland Security to report to Congress all crimes committed by immigrants released into the US interior through Biden’s Cuban, Haitian, Nicaraguan, and Venezuelan Parole Pipeline (CHNV program).
The bill would require the Department of Homeland Security to provide information on immigrants’ arrival in the United States, their nationalities, ties to criminal organizations and ties to terrorism.
“We cannot continue to allow our immigration policies, or lack thereof, to provide a back door for criminals and terrorists,” Luttrell said. Said:
To effectively address the issue, you need to understand the extent of the risk. The bill I have introduced will improve safety measures and provide Congress with the information to identify those who pose a threat to our communities and take appropriate action. The safety of the American people is paramount, and this Administration cannot continue to ignore it. [Emphasis added]
Biden’s parole pipeline has brought more than 1 million migrants to the U.S. since its launch in January 2023. About 435,000 migrants have arrived through the CHNV program alone.
In some cases, immigrants released through the CHNV program have been charged with crimes against U.S. citizens.
Most notably, an illegal immigrant charged with murdering 22-year-old nursing student Laken Riley was paroled and released to U.S. soil in 2022. The illegal immigrant had been approved for a work permit one month before he allegedly killed Riley.
Similarly, in February, an illegal immigrant was indicted in Campbell County, Virginia, for sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl. The illegal immigrant was released on parole and to the U.S. mainland in September 2023.
Currently, the federal government makes no effort to track crimes committed by illegal immigrants. Former Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Alabama) estimates that roughly 2,000 Americans and legal immigrants are killed by illegal immigrants each year.
