Joe Wilson shares why he invited Judge Merchan to Trump inauguration

First appeared on FOX: A top House Republican is so convinced that former President Trump’s recent conviction secured his reelection that he invited the Manhattan judge who oversaw the trial to his inauguration.

Rep. Joe Wilson of Lausanne, a strong supporter of President Trump, slammed Friday’s guilty verdict against the former president as “irresponsible and unethical.”

Trump told Fox News Digital that late last month he had his son, South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson, deliver a letter to the bailiff of New York Supreme Court Justice Juan Marchan expressing his desire to attend Trump’s inauguration as a guest in January 2025.

“We are inviting Mr. Marchan to the inauguration because we recognize that he is inadvertently trying to re-elect Donald Trump,” Wilson told Fox News Digital. “In fact, we are making arrangements to have his grandson, Houston Wilson, be there and have him seated appropriately.”

Wilson noted that Trump and his Republican allies have raised huge amounts of campaign cash since a New York City jury convicted former president Trump on 34 criminal counts of first-degree falsifying business records. Eric Trump announced earlier this week that his campaign raised more than $200 million in the first three days after his conviction.

Trump was on trial on charges that he falsified documents to conceal hush money he made to adult film star Stormy Daniels before the 2016 election.

Trump’s supporters have long criticized the case as political, arguing that the charges would not have been brought if Trump had not been seeking reelection in November.

“This should concern all Americans because if a former president of the United States is convicted on these spurious charges, it puts all Americans of both parties at risk, whether they are public servants or not,” Wilson said.

“Why is it being brought up in an election year? Of course, this is a total hoax to disrupt the election.”

Wilson said he didn’t know if Marchand would accept the invitation.

“And I want to tell him that what he did was wrong,” Wilson said. “I would invite him to come and see the reaction of the American people. People will be civil to him, but they will make sure he knows what he’s done is unethical and corrupt. It’s completely corrupt.”

Fox News Digital has asked a New York City court for a response.
