Asked Thursday on ABC’s “World News Tonight” about former President Donald Trump, a potential 2024 Republican presidential candidate who was convicted by a Manhattan jury of 34 counts of falsifying business records, President Joe Biden said he received a “fair trial.”
“World News Tonight” host David Muir said, “You spoke to the American people about Donald Trump and his 34-felony conviction. You told the American people to respect the jury and the outcome of this case. You told the crowd at a campaign fundraiser that a convicted felon is running for the presidency. You called it disturbing. How do you think the American people should respond to this?”
“That’s for the people to decide. One thing is for sure: we don’t undermine the rule of law. We don’t undermine the institution. That’s what this whole effort is about. MAGA Republicans are saying this was a setup, this is a jury and a judge set up to get Trump. There’s no evidence of that,” Biden said.
“He’s trying to undermine that. He had a fair trial. The jury spoke, as they do in every case, and that should be respected,” the president added.
