Yankees’ Gleyber Torres completely drops easy pop up

Gleyber Torres bailed out but had an embarrassing moment that will likely have him wanting a comeback.

The Yankees second baseman played too casually, dropping a pop fly with ease, in the third inning of the team’s series opener against the Dodgers on Friday night in the Bronx.

Gavin Lux hit a grounder to Torres to start the inning, then Enrique Hernandez hit a pop fly to shallow right field.

Torres ran towards it without much urgency, and rather than taking up a position underneath, he lowered one hand to his chest and tried to catch it in style.

But he failed and was accused of his error.

After the game, there was loud booing around Yankee Stadium.

It was Torres’ eighth error of the year, the most among MLB second basemen.

But then pitcher Cody Poteet tagged Hernandez out at first base, then forced Shohei Ohtani into a lineout to end the inning.

So Torres’s head-scratching gaffe didn’t end up costing the Yankees anything.

However, Torres has been criticized in the past for his casual approach on the field.

And this time, he was hurt.
