LA Gov. Signs Bill Requiring Transgenders to Use Restrooms Aligned with Biological Sex

Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry (R) on Wednesday signed a bill that will take effect on August 1st that will require transgender people to use restrooms and public facilities that match their biological sex.

HB 608 is called the “Women’s Safety and Protection Act,” according to WBRZ reporthe added.

HB 608, authored by Republican Rep. Roger Wilder of Denham Springs, would segregate all bathrooms, changing rooms, locker rooms and sleeping areas in public schools, domestic violence shelters and correctional facilities by gender, barring transgender people from using facilities that match their gender identity.

Landry said she was proud to sign the bill, saying, “This bill will keep women safe and strengthen what it means to be a woman.”

“Enough is enough,” Landry said. “The state of Louisiana will not allow biological males to take advantage of opportunities for women.”

On the final pass, Wilder Said“We must protect the dignity, safety and well-being of all women. I support the fundamental understanding that there are biological differences between women and men and that separate privacy spaces for women and men are necessary.”
