“Real Time” host Bill Maher blasted President Biden’s dramatic shift on immigration with his executive order, saying it was a pre-election “Hail Mary” that “will not be successful” with voters.
“If Biden loses this election, it will be for two reasons: he’s older and he’s on immigration,” Maher began during a panel discussion on Friday. “So, on a political level, I don’t think Biden could have handled it any worse.”
“After saying he can’t do anything, he’s finally going to issue an executive order, which, by the way, is the same executive order that Trump tried to get through the courts and didn’t pass,” Maher said. “But he’s finally going to try it six months before the election, which is to put a cap on the number of asylum seekers coming in at 2,500. If we get over 2,500, if we get to 2,501, we’re going to automatically close the border. The fire chief is going to say, ‘No more!’ He’s going to come in here and shut down the clubs! And if you don’t have a stamp on your hand, you can’t get in!”

“But once it’s down to 1,500, they’ll resume the normal asylum process. It’s like an Uber price spike,” Maher said sarcastically. “It’s a bizarre plan that, of course, doesn’t please anyone. It seems like a last-minute move and he didn’t do anything about it. Of course, he tried in Congress, but Republicans purposely kicked the ball out of the way. They didn’t want that because they wanted this bill to be an issue. So they could have worked it out themselves. They didn’t. But now this seems like his last Hail Mary pass right before the election, and it’s not going to succeed.”

The HBO star then cited statistics showing that since Biden took office as president in January 2021, “more than nine million migrants have entered the country.”
“That’s more than the number of people who live in Nicaragua. He allowed entry to the entire country,” Maher said.

He added, “The question that Democrats don’t seem to have the courage to answer is how many is too many? And the answer is infinity. Anyone who doesn’t give that answer is a racist. That’s their essential problem on this issue.”

Maher then released “eye-opening numbers” showing former President Trump has a “30-point lead” over Biden among registered voters on whether he would do a better job handling immigration and border security.
“He promised to build the wall and he never did. The wall was his big issue and he never did!” Maher explained.

He also cited a poll showing Trump carrying a “23-point lead” among Hispanic voters.
“You’re not even including the people you’re supposed to be catering to!” Maher complained to Democrats.
Maher has long been a vocal voice warning Democrats about immigration, saying in October 2021 that the border crisis would be their “Achilles heel” come election time.
