Bryce Harper is a huge fan of Major League Baseball’s London Series.
The Phillies star raved about the opportunity while speaking to the media before Saturday’s game across the pond against the Mets.
“We’re excited as a team to come out here and play in front of different fans,” Harper told reporters. “Obviously, the guys here love football. Going to a different country and playing in front of new fans is going to be a fun time for us and a fun time for them.”
This weekend’s two-game series will mark the league’s third meeting in London, following Yankees-Red Sox in 2019 and Cubs-Cardinals in 2023.
MLB is also set to return in 2026, but Harper said it could go further than that.
“I’d love for Major League Baseball to bring four teams over here and play them in a round robin format and be here for a week and a half, two weeks, so that British baseball fans can come together,” Harper said. “The games will be over so quickly, it’ll be fun to get around the country a little bit, get on the train to different places and see things. I think it’ll be a lot of fun.”
Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo echoed Harper’s sentiments, calling for an extension of his time overseas.
“That’s a great idea.” He said“Once we get used to the time difference, maybe we could spend a few weeks here, play in a few cities and do a round robin. That would be great.”
“I think the most important thing is the first 24 hours. After that you’re in a much better place physically and mentally. So I would love to see that. I think it would be good for the game and I think it would help grow the sport. So I think it’s a great idea.”
London will be the last of four international stops for MLB this season, after a spring training stop in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and regular-season games in Seoul, South Korea, and Mexico City.
The Mets and Phillies will conclude their London series at 10:10 a.m. ET on Sunday.
