A Second Amendment group has vowed to sue the New York Police Department to defend former President Donald Trump’s concealed carry permit, following his felony conviction in a hush money case.

“We are thrilled to welcome this award to the Second Amden Foundation,” said Alan M. Gottlieb, founder and vice chairman of the Second Amden Foundation (SAF). press release The group said on June 6 that it was prepared to “challenge legislation” to protect Trump’s gun ownership.

“If Donald Trump faces further charges for firearms possession, we will offer to defend him and challenge the law,” Gottlieb said.

The group has pledged to take on New York state’s justice system, even though felons are not allowed to hold firearms permits under New York law.

Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon is a federal crime.

SAF said its position has always been that “people should not lose their gun rights because of a conviction for a non-violent crime.”

Trump’s concealed concealed handgun permit was first revoked in April 2023 when he was indicted in a hush money case in New York.

Gottlieb said former presidents “should not lose their Second Amendment rights.”

The founders said the NYPD’s preparations to revoke President Trump’s gun license underscore the need for reform of gun rights laws.

“President Trump’s attacks on gun rights underscore the need to reexamine our existing gun laws and reform them to protect individual gun rights,” Gottlieb said. “Until that happens, we will gladly take on the state of New York and the federal government in court.”

If SAF were to bring a lawsuit against the NYPD, they have the experience.

Gottlieb said the foundation currently has 60 lawsuits underway and has won appeals to the U.S. Supreme Court.

“Our motto is ‘Winning Gun Rights, One Lawsuit at a Time,'” Gottlieb said. “And that will include defending and winning gun rights for Donald Trump.”
