Jordan Spieth and Rickie Fowler were two of the big names who missed the cut at the Memorial Tournament.
Neither player played well at Jack’s Place, but both were able to get a head start in their preparations for the U.S. Open.
The two were playing golf together at Pinehurst on Sunday, according to a follower who sent the video to X’s Rickie Fowler Tracker. Played the full 18 holes.
Neither Fowler nor Spieth have had particularly good results in 2024. Spieth has three top 10s and three top 25s and has made the cut nine times in 14 tournaments.
Since finishing T10th at the Valero Texas Open, Spieth has finished MC, T39, MC, T29, T43, T37 and MC.
He missed the cut at the Masters and the Byron Nelson CJ Cup. In the past three U.S. Opens, Spieth’s best finish was a tie for 37th in 2022, and he missed the cut in 2021 and 2023.
But the last time the USGA hosted the U.S. Open at Pinehurst, Spieth tied for 17th.
As for Fowler, many thought he was on the rise after finally breaking out of a winless streak in 2023. He has one top-25 finish in 2024.
In the first two majors of the year, Fowler finished tied for 30th at Augusta National and tied for 63rd at the PGA Championship.
This week’s miss marks his first time missing the cut since the Valero Texas Open in the first week of April.
Last year, Fowler tied for fifth in the U.S. Open at Los Angeles Country Club and finished tied for second at Pinehurst in 2014.
They’re back home from Ohio, but a fast start at Pinehurst could help them get back on track for their third major of the year.
