New Mexico police arrest 11-year-old after month-long crime spree

Police in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on Thursday arrested a boy in his early teens who had been terrorizing residents for a month with a burglary, car theft and shootings.

APD Chief Harold Medina said he was disappointed that an 11-year-old boy was arrested for crimes ranging from theft to discharging a gun.

according to Local ReportThe juvenile, whose identity is not being released because of his age, faces numerous charges including assault with a deadly weapon, conspiracy, shooting into or from a motor vehicle, shooting into an occupied dwelling, aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon by a minor, burglary not in a dwelling, criminal damage to property over $1,000 and conspiracy to commit a fourth-degree felony.

The crime spree began on May 5 with the theft of a Kia Forete in northeast Albuquerque. A week later, a woman reported four boys had thrown rocks at her window and hit her in the leg. That same day, a 12-year-old girl called police to report a group of boys who frequented the area and identified themselves as the “Kia Boys” had been throwing rocks at her home and trying to break into it.

On May 17, Albuquerque Police officers were dispatched to a commercial burglary where a stolen vehicle crashed into the entrance of a business, causing $15,000 in damages.

On May 29, a man called police to report he had been shot at by four minors in a blue Kia after he instructed them to stay in front of his home where the vehicle was parked.

And last week, Albuquerque police received a call about a man with a gunshot wound to the hand at General Chennault, after which a handgun was recovered at the scene.
