Heroic plays highlight Florida baseball’s close win over Clemson in NCAA Super Regional

of NCAA Super The regional game between the Florida Gators and Clemson Tigers featured some heroics when it mattered most Sunday afternoon.

The Gators scored two runs in the bottom of the 13th inning to win, 11-10, eliminating the Tigers from the postseason. Florida returned to the Men’s College World Series.

Michael Robertson was the hero for the Gators, going 2-for-6 with 2 RBI. Jack Caglianone, Brodie Donay and Ashton Wilson also hit a home run for the Gators.

But it wasn’t for a lack of effort. The Tigers’ season rested on center Cam Cannarella.

Clemson was tied with the Florida Gators at 9-9 in the bottom of the 10th inning. The Gators had runners on second and first and Wilson was at home plate.

Wilson hit a long fly ball to center field and Cannarella chased it down and made an incredible overhead catch to get the final out and end the inning.

Clemson head coach Eric Bakich was ejected in the top of the 13th inning after Alden Matthes gave Clemson the lead with a solo home run. Broadcasts initially suggested that this was because Matthes had spiked his bat in front of the dugout after the home run. Reports said Matthes had been warned about spiking the bat, and the Tigers bench was visibly upset.

Bakić pumped up the crowd as he left the field.

Florida fought their way to victory and now heads to Omaha to play for the national championship.
