Scottie Scheffler’s first win as a father was made even sweeter the moment he stepped off the 18th green.
The world number one-ranked player was greeted by his newborn son, Bennett, and wife, Meredith, after sinking a putt to finish at eight under par for a one-stroke victory over Collin Morikawa at the Memorial Tournament in Dublin, Ohio, on Sunday.
Meredith held Bennett, who was born in May, and delivered a special message before handing over the baby’s bundle of joy.
“Your dad is so proud of you,” Meredith said with a big smile. “Want to say hi? That’s your dad. He’s so proud of you, isn’t he?”
The three embraced before Scheffler turned in his scorecard at Muirfield Village Golf Club, a moment that meant a lot to Scheffler.
“It’s a lot of fun,” Scheffler told CBS Sports in an on-track interview after his win. “He’s [Bennett] I’m a little sunburned right now, but I’m OK. I’ll give you a hat in a moment.”
The win, which included a handshake with tournament organizer Jack Nicklaus, was Scheffler’s fifth PGA Tour victory this year and his first since his arrest at the PGA Championship on driving-related charges that were later dropped.
The two-time Masters champion and his wife welcomed Bennett into the world just before the PGA Championship.

Scheffler will be looking to continue his good form and win his third major championship at next weekend’s U.S. Open at Pinehurst.
“It’s a lot of fun,” Scheffler said of his first win as a father. “This tournament is special to us and always will be.”
