Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg (Democrat) recently agreed to testify He testified before Congress about the prosecution of former President Donald Trump.
Bragg filed a 34-count felony lawsuit against Trump last year for allegedly falsifying business records, and a 12-person Manhattan jury found the former president guilty on all charges late last month.
“If they’re not willing to come voluntarily, we’ll issue them a summons.”
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) has invited Bragg to testify before Congress on June 13 regarding the district attorney’s case against Trump.
be letter Bragg’s attorney, Leslie Dubeck, said the DA’s office is “voluntarily cooperating” with the committee in its investigation of the New York trial, but Dubeck claimed “scheduling conflicts” would prevent Bragg from attending the next meeting.
“That cooperation will include making the District Attorney available to testify on behalf of the DA’s office on an agreed-upon date, as well as evaluating the appropriateness of allowing the Assistant District Attorney to testify publicly about ongoing litigation in his or her care,” Dubeck wrote to Jordan. “However, there are various scheduling conflicts with the proposed date that the Subcommittee chose without consulting the DA’s office.”
Dubeck also alleged that the committee had not clarified “the scope of his proposed testimony.” The letter also said that Bragg may not be able to testify before Congress until after President Trump’s sentencing, scheduled for July 11.
“Lower and appellate courts have issued numerous orders aimed at protecting the fair administration of justice in People v. Trump, and participating in a hearing at this time could adversely affect those efforts,” Dubeck wrote.
Jordan recently: Washington Reporter The committee plans to issue subpoenas to Bragg and Matthew Colangelo, one of the lead prosecutors in the case, if they do not appear to testify.
“If they do not come, we will leave no stone unturned. We were informed yesterday and we are in touch with them. But if they do not come, we will come. If they are not willing to come voluntarily, we will issue summonses,” he told media.
Colangelo, a former senior Justice Department official, was effectively demoted to join Bragg’s prosecution team in the criminal trial of Trump in New York. Jordan said Bragg’s decision to hire Colangelo as lead prosecutor on the case “creates the impression that the Justice Department is supporting a ‘political prosecution’ of a former president.”
