NASA promotes ‘diverse and inclusive teams’ for pride month

The government space agency is encouraging transgender and non-binary individuals, including men who dress as women, to participate as part of Pride Month, which celebrates diverse teams.

NASA posted the video in support of Pride Month to promote “self-esteem, dignity” and equal rights, the space program said, adding that it also wanted to raise awareness about diversity and gender differences.

Even though the video was originally released in 2022, NASA saw no problem reusing it to promote hiring based on sexual orientation and gender in 2024.

In the video, Rebecca Reed, associate director for Exploration, Integration and Science, emphasized the idea that children need to be able to engage with a “diverse” NASA workforce, including the gay, transgender and non-binary-identifying workers featured in the video.

“If every person, every child, can see themselves in the astronauts we send into space and the teams that make it possible, then we’re doing our job,” she asserted.

“We’re working on incredibly difficult and complex things,” she continued. “We want people who can see things differently and bring new ways to solve problems, and diverse and inclusive teams deliver that.”

Also appearing in the video was a man named Amy Lendian, a protection systems engineer.

Lendian said that if someone is closeted as gay, seeing someone like themselves doing their job and doing it effectively is the “greatest encouragement” he can give, adding that being a man who identifies as a woman while working at NASA shows him he can be his “true self” and still do his job well.

“They’ve accepted me 100 percent. We’re all in this together.”

“For the first time, we raised the Intersex Progress Pride Flag at NASA.”

Multimedia page In the video, dedicated to Pride, Lendian spoke out further about being transgender, noting her work on the Artemis lunar mission.

“I’m a transgender woman who works as an engineer at Kennedy Space Center and I get to work with some incredibly smart and amazing people supporting the Artemis program,” he said. Said.

Robotics systems engineer Harel Doll also appeared in a Pride video, where he spoke about the importance of using plural pronouns because he is “non-binary.”

Dole recounted a time when he attended a “candidate lunch” and met someone who used the same irregular pronouns.
The video showed photos of Doll dressed in women’s clothing, with Doll recalling that it was “really nice to see someone else in the room using those pronouns.”

“I made sure to introduce myself using pronouns so that participants knew they weren’t alone here,” he added.

A few days after promoting this video, NASA Ames Research Center The government announced its decision to fly the “Intersex Progress” flag on government buildings, a flag that promotes transgenderism and racial politics.

For the first time, we commemorated by raising the Intersex Progress Pride flag at the NASA Center. “#PrideMonth,” the agency posted. X.

NASA also argued that there remain “obstacles” to achieving full inclusion and protection for the LGBTQ+ community, but said they will continue to “stand together” to achieve their goals at NASA.

The space agency at the time Said It said it recognized “significant contributions from LGBTQ+ employees” and their contributions to “advance NASA priorities.”
