In the same spirit of sending the “Alas, Christ is Risen” message to my secular friends at Easter, I feel compelled to report some good news here: Even the liberal justices on the Supreme Court are still clinging to the remains of old America and its biblical legacy of human dignity and freedom. At least for now. And that should give us reason for hope.
of U.S. Supreme Court New York’s highest court on Thursday revived a lawsuit filed by the National Rifle Association that accused New York state officials of forcing banks and insurance companies to avoid doing business with gun-rights groups, issuing a warning against public officials using their power to punish speech they don’t like.
In a 9-0 decision written by liberal Justice Sonia Sotomayor, the Supreme Court overturned a lower court’s decision to dismiss a lawsuit brought by the NRA in 2018 against Maria Vullo, the former director of the New York Department of Financial Services. At issue was whether Vullo used her regulatory power to force New York financial institutions to sever ties with the NRA, in violation of the First Amendment’s protections against government restrictions on free speech.
The NRA accused Vullo of an “implicit regime of censorship” that targeted the organization and unlawfully retaliated against it for its defense of constitutionally protected gun rights following the 2018 Parkland, Florida, high school shooting that left 17 people dead.
“Ultimately, the key point is that the First Amendment prohibits government officials from using their power to selectively punish or suppress speech, either directly or, as asserted here, through private intermediaries,” Sotomayor wrote.

New York State illegally used its enormous regulatory and financial power to bribe, intimidate, and otherwise force banks, insurance companies, and other key vendors out of business with the NRA. It is the society desired by those who have abandoned the Christian vision of human beings as free, responsible, dignified, and made in the image of God. Our Constitution was made for such people. If you didn’t believe such people even existed, and that we are just trouser-wearing monkeys spat out by random mutation, you wouldn’t support our Constitution. That’s why leftists and other Darwinian materialists don’t support it. They are drawn to dictatorship because they are aware of the turmoil in their own souls and are deeply skeptical about the very value of human life.

On Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, even liberals seem to think so, which is why they still issue decisions like Sotomayor’s. Why else would they be driven to moral insanity by claims of “inequality”? Why would they authorize biologically destructive and sterilizing gender “treatments” purportedly to help children and adolescents follow the urges of their troubled minds?
Making fertile young people infertile and thus a biological dead end has no basis in Darwinian theory. Nor does it have an evolutionary basis for condemning racism. Charles Darwin did not do so. For nearly three decades, everyone in the West had to at least claim to reject the brutal implications of biological materialism. The church-based civil rights movement emerged as the last great public moment of Christian witness. But progressives were quick to discard the theological baggage implied by Martin Luther King Jr.’s embrace of natural law, and claim the same moral superiority over feminism, homosexual “liberation,” and now transgenderism. That same natural law is now cited by liberals as a reason for not approving fundamentalist judges.
It is not entirely accurate to call progressives “heathens” because they engage in idolatry, such as: PachamamaThey are akin to the ultimate Marcionites, detaching themselves from the Creator’s laws in order to cherry-pick the “spirit” of the gospel without being bound by authority, tradition, or even the letter of Scripture.

The claims of Christian justice and mercy must be left half alive, like a sickly cow, to be milked at convenient times.
It took the Christian instinct to value human dignity to mutate like a tumor, straying from biblical teachings and natural law to give birth to today’s “woke” left. As Tom Holland demonstrates But such dignity has no basis in the “science” progressives boast that they “believe.” While they acknowledge that humans are nothing more than trousered apes, they also imagine that humans are Zeus-like gods who can shape-shift and change sex according to their sexual desires. Our freedom begins at the bedroom door… and ends there. The same people who support abortion “choice” at nine months and want to eliminate all borders are the same ones who want to get the hostess at Chili’s to ask for our vaccine cards.
The outrageous contradictions of the Left’s worldview make our elites more dangerous, not less. They scoff at logical inconsistencies and legal double standards. They happily release violent criminals onto the streets while jailing peaceful pro-life and electoral integrity advocates. They can switch in an instant between speaking like a civil liberties advocate and a Maoist Red Guard. What we take to be a smoking gun argument demonstrating their self-contradiction is met with ridicule and summonses.
The half-materialistic, half-Gnostic jumble of our enemy’s naive intellects is what makes them so deadly, and that is why we must fight for the right of self-defense that our founders wrote into the Bill of Rights, our last line of defense against the threat of unreasonable power.
