House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) said Hunter Biden’s three felony convictions were “a step towards accountability”, but added that the Justice Department needed to go further.
Noting that a plea deal originally reached between Hunter Biden and the Department of Justice was thrown out by a federal judge, he said in a statement:

Today’s ruling is a step toward accountability, but it is clear that Department of Justice officials continue to shield the big guy, Joe Biden, until they investigate everyone involved in the Biden family’s corrupt influence scheme that led to the Biden family sending over $18 million abroad.

Other Republicans also suggested the conviction could be a distraction from President Joe Biden’s son’s alleged involvement in business matters.
Charlie Kirk of Turning Point USA called it a “sham trial” and posted on X:
Hunter Biden is guilty. Yawn. The true crimes of the Biden crime family are yet to be revealed. This is a sham trial to make the justice system look “balanced”. Don’t be fooled.

Shortly before sentencing, Judge Kirk warned that Democrats would use the guilty verdict to argue that the justice system was “fair” and unbiased.
But, he said, “…that’s a lie. The charges against Trump were fabricated from scratch to eliminate a political opponent. They have always been bogus. Meanwhile, the charges against Hunter are minimal and the result of years of favoritism by the Department of Justice, FBI and IRS to protect the Biden family from accountability.”
He added:
Instead of prosecuting Hunter, James, and the Big Guy for selling out U.S. foreign policy to foreign oligarchs and evading taxes on years of kickback payments, the administration will claim the case was “settled” with a single verdict of lying on a gun tax return. There will never be a full investigation into the IRS agents who were ordered to stay out of Hunter’s crimes. There will never be a proper investigation into how the FBI pressured tech companies to censor coverage of Hunter’s laptop, when the FBI knew it was completely real all along. This trial is a kabuki theater. Hunter and the Biden family deserve much worse than they are getting this week.
Hunter Biden may be convicted this week, which is a good thing, but we shouldn’t get too excited.
First, it’s entirely possible that Hunter will receive no prison time and that the trial is simply a delayed version of the easy plea deal that Judge Noreika threw out a year ago.
