Kevin Spacey has described himself as someone who has “pushed the boundaries” and “got too far” in the past in a new interview.
The actor won a civil lawsuit in the US alleging that he was pressured into performing unwanted sexual acts at a party in 1986, and last year he was acquitted at Southwark Crown Court of sexually assaulting four men between 2001 and 2013.
He has always denied any allegations of criminal or wrongdoing.
In an interview with the YouTube channel Piers Morgan Uncensored, Spacey said he has “pushed boundaries” in the past.
When asked how he did it, he told Morgan, “I went too far, I touched her sexually in ways that I didn’t know she wanted.”
“I’ve treated people well, I’ve been good to people, that’s the way I am,” he added in response to the accusations.
“When you’re flirting with someone, you don’t want to be aggressive. Be nice. You want to see if they respond favorably.”
He added: “They should let you know they don’t want to do it so you understand it’s non-consensual and can stop it.”
The actor also said he would auction his home to pay legal costs following allegations of sexual misconduct.
He said: “This week the house I live in in Baltimore went into foreclosure and my house is going to be auctioned.”
“I have to go back to Baltimore and store all my stuff. So the answer to that question is, I’m not really sure where I’m going to live from now on, but I’ve been living in Baltimore ever since filming House of Cards started and I moved in 2012.”
When asked why he was selling his house, he replied: “I can’t pay my debts.”
“Several times I [for bankruptcy]But at least for today, we’ve managed to get around it.”
Spacey said he owes “millions of dollars” in legal fees and appeared emotional at various times during the lengthy, in-person interview.
He was fired from Netflix’s “House of Cards” when the 2017 allegations emerged during the show’s sixth season, and was later cut from the film “All the Money in the World” and replaced by Christopher Plummer, who had to reshoot scenes at the last minute.
The actor also denied new allegations of inappropriate behaviour which were made in the Channel 4 documentary “Spacey vs. the City”.
A Channel 4 spokesman previously said: “Spacey Unmasked is an important film that explores the balance of power and inappropriate behaviour in the workplace, and aims to give a voice to those who have traditionally had no voice.”
In 2022, Spacey was sued in London’s High Court by a man who claimed he had sexually assaulted him and suffered “psychological damage.”
The case was suspended pending criminal trial but resumed after a hearing in May.
Celebrities including Sharon Stone, Liam Neeson and Stephen Fry spoke to The Telegraph in May urging him to return to acting.
Spacey has won two Academy Awards, Best Supporting Actor for The Usual Suspects in 1996 and Best Actor for American Beauty in 2000, for which he also won a BAFTA for Best Actor.
