British Military Reports Ship Seized Near UAE Coast

In a recent development, Iranian forces have taken control of a ship approximately 38 nautical miles off the coast of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) early Thursday morning. This incident unfolded while President Donald Trump and Xi Jinping were engaged in discussions in Beijing, touching on crucial matters including the Strait of Hormuz.

The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) mentioned that the vessel was boarded and subsequently seized by “unauthorized persons” near the northeastern waters of Fujairah, a notable oil export terminal in the UAE. Following its capture, the ship was observed heading toward Iranian territorial waters.

Details about the vessel’s ownership and the identities of those who captured it remain undisclosed, which is somewhat unusual. However, reports from BBC, citing reliable sources, indicate that the ship in question is the Honduran-flagged Hui Chuan.

Interestingly, the ship’s pilot had informed Vanguard, a risk assessment firm, that the Hui Chuan functioned as a “floating arsenal,” reportedly intended for protection against piracy in the busy waters of the Strait.

This isn’t an isolated case; at least two other ships have been taken in the Strait of Hormuz since February alone. Earlier this year, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) had also seized the Panamanian-flagged MSC Francesca and Epaminondes in the same area.

While the situation remains fluid, it’s concerning to see these ongoing maritime tensions. Responses from UKMTO and other entities have yet to be received at the time of reporting.
