T20 World Cup 2024: Australia v Namibia – live | T20 World Cup 2024

Hazlewood and Maxwell combine again, this time to dismiss Michael van Lingen as Namibia are on the brink of collapse. The Australia pacer works his line outside off and van Lingen can’t help but dab at one that finds extra bounce and carries to Maxwell at backward point.

It doesn’t take long for Pat Cummins to strike as Frylinck looks to hit over the infield but finds Mitch Marsh standing at mid off. The Australia takes a low but comfortable catch.

The Namibia opener has been trying to give himself room but Hazlewood follows him. Davin’s cramped back-footed drive takes an edge and flies to Glenn Maxwell in the gully for a simple catch. There was a bit of extra bounce on that one.

Important Events

Round 6: Namibia 17-3 (Erasmus 0, Smit 2) Stoinis returned to bowl in the final over of the powerplay with Namibia now focused on survival rather than quick scoring. The final delivery saw a bloodbath but ended with Erasmus whiffing. In this scenario, the captain’s play was dodgy and a little unnecessary.

Round 5: Namibia 16-3 (Erasmus 0, Smit 1) Hazlewood’s consistent line and length make Namibia suffer in every sense of the word. Bounce was a key weapon for the pace bowlers who didn’t get much action but it nearly breached Smit’s defence when the final ball of the over bounced off the seam. A superb over leaves Hazlewood two for 10 with one to go.

Wickets! Namibia 15-3 (van Lingen c Maxwell, b Hazlewood 10)

Namibia nearly collapsed when Hazlewood and Maxwell combined again, this time to dismiss Michael van Lingen. The Australian fast bowler ran a line outside the offside and van Lingen instinctively flicked the ball, which bounced further and went to Maxwell at backward point.

Fourth round: Namibia 15-2 (Van Lingen 10, Erasmus 0) Cummins took no wickets as Australia put Namibia on the defensive early on.

Wickets! Namibia 15-2 (Flylink c Marsh, b Cummins 1)

It wasn’t long before Pat Cummins took the ball, his fly link trying to hit it over the infield but it hit Mitch Marsh, who was standing on the off side, and Australia took an easy catch, albeit low.

3rd: Namibia 14-1 (Van Lingen 10, Vlilink 1) Hazlewood provided the breakthrough, smashing Davin’s bat a couple of times, while Jan Vrilink, who scored 45 against Oman and 12 against Scotland, came in to bat alongside van Lingen.

Wickets! Namibia 14-1 (Davin c Maxwell, b Hazlewood 2)

The Namibian opener was trying to create space but Hazlewood was chasing him, a cramped backfoot drive from Dubbin edging its way to Glenn Maxwell in the gully for an easy catch – the ball had a little extra bounce to it.

2nd: Namibia 13-0 (Van Lingen 9, Davin 2) Marcus Stoinis was handed the new ball and got going straight away, but it was a surprise that Pat Cummins wasn’t called on. Davin tried to hit a flat ball over Stoinis’ head but missed and was lucky the ball fell safely for a single. Van Lingen hit a brilliant straight one past Stoinis and Australia put Namibia in check early.

1st: Namibia 7-0 (Van Lingen 4, Davin 1) Thanks to some great work from the ground staff, the start was delayed by just over a minute.

Josh Hazlewood gets the new ball Opener Michael van Lingen was soon on the back foot, again batting at the top of the order alongside Nicholas Davin. The Australian fast bowler lost his line and bowled an erratic ball down the leg side, but keeper Matt Wade got a gloved catch to prevent three runs. Instead, a thick edge of the final ball picked up the first boundary of the game.

There are about 20 minutes until kick-off in Antigua, but the outfield is wet. The match in Florida, where Nepal and Sri Lanka are due to play, has been delayed. There is a chance we may have to resort to five-over matches per team, which would be disappointing for the teams, but I think it would be pretty fun to watch.

Australia won the toss and elected to bat first.

Mitch Marsh called the ball heads, deciding that Australia would bat first.

“It looks like a good wicket,” Marsh says, but it’s an ominous sign for Namibia.

Australia’s only change from their emphatic win over England was the introduction of Nathan Ellis for Mitch Starc. “He hasn’t fully recovered from the last game so we’ve taken a safe approach here,” Marsh said.

Namibia made three changes but coach Gerhard Erasmus said they would have batted first, and the Eagles captain is smiling at the thought of adding another to the long list of upsets already occurring in this T20 World Cup.
