Police said a bus was hijacked by a suspect in Atlanta, leading to a police pursuit into a neighboring county after which one passenger was shot and killed.
Officers from Atlanta Police’s Fifth District responded to a report of a shooting and a possible hostage situation on a Gwinnett County Transit bus near downtown Atlanta around 4:30 p.m.
On arrival the bus was hijacked, the driver fled and a pursuit ensued.
According to Atlanta Police, the pursuit spanned multiple jurisdictions and involved multiple agencies, and police used a variety of tactics to stop the bus, which eventually came to a halt near 5107 Hugh Howell Road in Stone Mountain.

Police said the suspect, a 39-year-old man, was taken into custody without further incident.
Police said an adult gunshot victim was found on the bus and taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital in critical condition, where he later died from his injuries.
There were about a dozen passengers on board the bus, but no further injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing.

The pursuit came shortly after a gunman opened fire on several people at a food court in downtown Atlanta, ending with an off-duty police officer shooting and killing the man.
