Rep. Steven Horsford (D-Nev.) won his party’s nomination in a crucial battleground district in Tuesday’s primary.
The incumbent Democrat managed to fend off a primary challenge from young political newcomer Levi Schultz.
Schultz challenged the Nevada representative, saying there is a shortage of affordable housing in Las Vegas.

“Americans shouldn’t have to rent the American Dream. They should be able to buy the American Dream,” he said. Las Vegas Review-Journal Earlier this year.
A challenger running against Horsford was considered an unwinnable prospect.

Horsford, a Democrat, was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2012. However, he lost his seat to a Republican candidate in 2014 after serving one term, but ran again in 2018 and regained his seat, which he has held ever since.
Nevada’s 4th District, along with 36 other districts across the nation, is being viewed as a key campaigning opportunity for Republicans.

“Republicans have the majority and we’re going on the offensive. We’re going to run a strong campaign with qualified candidates who can highlight the dangers of radical Democratic policies and expand our majority in the House,” National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Richard Hudson, R-N.C., said in a statement earlier this year. “House Democrats should be terrified.”
But this could be difficult, as the nonpartisan political forecasting organization Cook Political Report has rated the election as “likely to be won by the Democrats.”

Horsford still must face tough election challenges in battleground states, a situation made worse by the fact that he will have to split votes with President Biden, whose approval ratings are historically low.
