Residents of Omaha, Nebraska are relieved that police are investigating a local motel that has allegedly caused a string of crimes and safety issues in the community, KMTV reported Tuesday.

“Three years ago, the night desk clerk was accepting ground beef as payment for the room,” said Omaha Police Lt. John Sokolik, who noted that police are frequent visitors to the motel and are in contact with Motel 6 corporate headquarters.

But when it comes to solving the problem, local governments seem to have their hands full. They can’t take action unless someone files a complaint. “Then I turn it over to city planners and inspectors to investigate violations,” City Councilman Danny Begley told the outlet.
A Motel 6 corporate spokesperson released a statement to KMTV.
“Nothing is more important to us than the safety of our guests, hotel staff and the communities in which we operate. We are committed to providing clean, comfortable rooms and great service at affordable rates, and work hard to ensure that guests have a positive experience at our properties. We demand the highest standards of safety from ourselves and our franchisees, and are committed to partnering with local law enforcement to contribute to solving crime and violence in our communities in any way we can,” the statement read.
