Jude Law appeared on The Playlist’s podcast “The Discourse” on Wednesday and revealed why he turned down the opportunity to play Superman.
The Oscar-nominated actor reflected on his brief interaction with playing the iconic role in the Brett Ratner-directed film. playlist.
“The seduction process was ongoing,” Law recalls, “but I always resisted it because it just didn’t feel right. You could say, ‘But you played Yon-Rogg and Dumbledore!’ But it just felt like a bit too much.”

Law further explained that he was hesitant at the time because he didn’t even have a script ready.
“I think it was when Brett Ratner was trying to direct. If I remember correctly, there was no script. Was there a script? I don’t remember reading it. It was a long time ago. They brought me the suit. I thought, ‘Maybe this will change your mind,'” the actor continued.

In an attempt to sway Law’s decision, the production team gifted him a Superman suit in the hopes that it would persuade him to accept the role, but the suit did not resonate with Law.
“It wasn’t like Reeve’s suit. It was more metallic. Anyway, when I tried it on and looked in the mirror, my first reaction was, ‘Wow, this is [good thing],'” he explained. (Related article: Did Hollywood miss out on a gay Superman? I think that’s a lie)
Despite initially being excited to see herself in the costume, Law eventually decided against it.
“So I just thought, ‘No, I can’t do that. I can’t do this. I can’t do it.’ And I didn’t sell myself. And I backed out and in the end the movie never happened. So probably nothing would have happened,” he continued.
