Tony Bennett’s daughters accuse his son of gaining ‘personal benefits’ from late singer’s estate

Tony Bennett’s daughters accused their brother of improperly handling the late singer’s assets in a lawsuit filed Wednesday.

Antonia and Joanna Bennett allege that D’Andrea “Danny” Bennett “personally benefited himself and his companies” from various transactions, including the sale of memorabilia.

The daughters also allege that Danny failed to properly report all of the proceeds from the sale of Tony’s catalog to Iconoclast earlier this year.

“It remains unclear what music assets (and other property) were or were not sold as part of the transaction,” the filing states, because Antonia and Joanna “have not been informed of various details of the transaction, despite repeated requests.”

The sisters argued that the information Danny provided to them only created “more questions”.

“While Danny and his legal team have provided piecemeal information to petitioner’s legal team and submitted several documents, the information provided raises more questions than it answers and does not provide anything close to a record of Tony’s assets and financial situation,” court documents said.

Tony’s manager, Danny, who runs the family trust, did not respond to a request for comment Thursday about the lawsuit, which also names another of Tony’s brothers, Daygal “Day” Bennett, and Tony’s widow, Susan Benedetto.

Antonia and Joanna are seeking “equitable relief”. Tony’s daughters are demanding Danny provide them with a complete record of the late singer’s trust estate, along with receipts, expenditures, expenses and tax returns.

Tony passed away at the age of 96, according to a post on the singer’s Instagram page on July 21, 2023.

“Tony left us today but was still singing at the piano the other day. His last song was his first number one hit, ‘Because of You,'” the caption read. “Tony, because of you your songs will forever be in our hearts.”

Tony’s career goal was to “create a hit catalogue, not just hit records,” and he certainly achieved that goal by releasing over 70 albums since his career began in 1949. The singer’s breakthrough moment came in 1951 when he released “Because of You,” which became Tony’s first number one hit.

Some of his most popular releases include: “I left my heart in San Francisco.” “Love for Sale,” “Cheek to Cheek,” and “Duets II.”
