Kentucky State Police detectives discovered the decomposed body of an 8-month-old baby girl on Friday who had been missing for several weeks.
State police found “the remains of an infant matching the description of Mya Ladd” in a home in Ohio County in western Kentucky.
State police said the body had been “concealed in plain sight.”
The body will be transported to the Kentucky State Medical Examiner’s Office in Louisville for an autopsy.
Police began searching for the baby more than a week ago.
Relatives said they had not seen Miya since late April.
Investigators found her parents, Tesla Tucker, 29, and Cage Ladd, 30, at the hotel without the child.
Tucker and Ladd, along with Miya’s paternal grandparents, were arrested and charged earlier this month with child abuse, abandonment and multiple drug offenses.
Calls to Tucker and Rudd’s lawyers were not returned Friday evening.
The child’s maternal grandparents were arrested Wednesday on outstanding warrants.
Another man charged Thursday with multiple drug-related offenses also formerly lived at the Ladd home, state police said.
Police used cadaver dogs to search the church, the cemetery and wooded areas behind the family home, before bringing in sonar equipment and forensic teams.
State police officials expressed frustration at the lack of cooperation from Miya’s family during the search.
State police spokesman Officer Corey King said investigators were shocked by the lack of support and information from Miya’s family, “the people who should love and care for her the most.”
