The Israeli hostages freed in Saturday’s rescue operation reportedly acknowledged that they had been held by Palestinian journalist Abdallah al-Jamal, but a CNN article on the claim goes on to say there is “no evidence.”
The four rescued hostages were being held in two separate houses in Nuseirat, Gaza Strip, less than 200 metres apart: the female hostage, Noa Al-Ghamani, was being held in one place and the three male hostages in another.
Breitbart News reported that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said the three male hostages were being held by a journalist named Abdallah al-Jamal, a contributor to the Palestine Chronicle (registered as a non-profit “charity” in the United States) and Al Jazeera, a Middle Eastern media outlet backed by the Qatari government.
CNN article The headline read: “Israel claims journalists are being held hostage in Gaza, without providing evidence.”
The article was last updated on June 10th (at the time of writing) and states:
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) claimed on Sunday that three hostages rescued during Israel’s deadly operation in Nuseira camp in central Gaza had been held captive by journalists, but provided no evidence to back up the claim.
The Israel Defense Forces said in a statement that the released hostages, Almog Meir Jan, Andrei Kozlov and Shlomi Ziv, had been held by journalist Abdallah al-Jamal and his family in their home in the camp in central Gaza.
…
Ramy Abdou, president of the Euromed human rights monitor, said al-Jamal was killed in an IDF operation along with his wife and father, citing early testimony collected by the group documenting alleged killings by the IDF in the Nuseirat camp on Saturday.
CNN did not appear to consider the possibility that the hostages themselves could corroborate the allegations.
since then, The Wall Street Journal They published an article confirming that the hostages had indeed said that Al-Jamal was their captor. journal article I got it.:
Israeli security forces and the hostages identified Abdullah al-Jamal, a Palestinian journalist who lived in the apartment, as one of the hostage takers. Abdullah and his father, Ahmad al-Jamal, a doctor and imam at a local Hamas-run mosque, were killed during the operation. Neighbors said they had always known Abdullah al-Jamal had ties to Hamas.
of journal He added that it was not yet known where the male hostage had been held before being rescued and taken to the home.
of journal The report, based on “interviews with hostage relatives, Israeli security officials and medical officials,” added detailed information about the treatment the hostages received during their captivity: although they were allowed to groom themselves, they were underfed, beaten and forced to recite the Quran and Islamic prayers.
CNN has yet to update its article to point out that there is in fact evidence that the hostages were being held by Al Jamal.
