“Real Time” host Bill Maher focused on the lack of condemnation of the growing anti-Semitism erupting on the left, comparing it to the national response to the infamous white supremacist rally in Charlottesville in 2017.
“I have a question for you: Why is it OK for the left to hate Jews?” Maher asked Friday night. “Because obviously, if the people in Charlottesville had done this, wouldn’t there have been much bigger protests?”
CNN contributor Ana Navarro countered that it wasn’t an “apples to apples” comparison, saying the “images” of dead children in Gaza were a big factor in the left’s activism, but author Joel Stein argued that the college students protesting today were “more powerful” than the “tiki torch-wielding tech guys” who marched in Charlottesville.

“The people in Charlottesville who were shouting, ‘The Jews cannot replace us,’ that’s bad. It’s not as bad as, ‘Death to them,’ is deplorable?” Maher exclaimed.
“That’s absolutely horrible,” Navarro replied.

“Well, if one side is deplorable and the other side does something — if I was a Holocaust survivor, and probably not many people are now — then I would choose ‘The Jews Will Not Replace Us’ over ‘Death to Zionists,'” Maher said.
“There’s no condemnation like there was in Charlottesville,” he later added.
