El Salvador Seizes 1 Ton Of Cocaine At Sea, Worth $25M

Authorities in El Salvador say they have seized a tonne of cocaine off the coast of the country after an 11-day voyage to transport the cache to shore.

El Salvador’s Defense Ministry and Attorney General’s Office announced Friday that about $25 million worth of drugs had been seized.

The seizure took place on June 3, government sources said.rdMeanwhile, the drugs had been seized 805 nautical miles offshore and then transported to a secure naval base.

“The distance seized was 805 nautical miles (1,491 kilometers), a considerable distance from Panama to Mexico, and no other authority has the will or ability to make a seizure at that distance,” said Defense Minister Vice Admiral Rene Francis Merino Monroy.

El Salvador’s Attorney General made the announcement in a statement posted on X. (Twitter) Three suspects arrested for transporting drugs are expected to stand trial in the coming days.
