Police said carjackers in the Bronx on Sunday stole a mother’s idling minivan with her 6-month-old baby inside.
Authorities say the suspect was eventually arrested and the baby was found safe.
According to a deputy commissioner of the NYPD, the car thief got into a gold 2000 Chrysler minivan at the corner of East 46th Street and Third Avenue around 11:30 a.m. and fled. Caz Daughtry said this on X After a nasty robbery.
The baby was in the back seat, he wrote.
About 30 minutes later, Daughtry provided an update.
“It is thanks to the public’s assistance and the incredible work of the NYPD that the 6-month-old baby was found safe and the suspect was taken into custody,” he wrote.
The 53-year-old suspect has not been formally charged but has been identified as a person of interest in the case, law enforcement sources told The Washington Post.
Sources say the carjacking suspect was caught walking along East 140th Street.

According to sources, the suspect has multiple prior arrests, including a car theft charge for stealing a Jeep Liberty on East 141st Street in the Bronx in November of last year.
