‘Greatest Threat to Democracy Today Is Joe Biden’

Sen. Tim Scott (R-South Carolina) said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union” that “the greatest threat to our democracy today” is President Joe Biden.

A partial transcript follows:

JOHN CARL: So this marks President Trump’s first visit to the Capitol since before the attack on January 6th. I want to leave you with what President Trump said about those who were convicted in the attack on the Capitol just days before his return.

Please try to hear.

Donald Trump (Republican), former US President and 2024 presidential candidate: The J6 warriors were warriors, but above all they are victims of what happened. All they were doing was protesting a rigged election.

KARL: So do you believe that? That the people who beat the Capitol police and broke into the building are warriors, or he calls them hostages and he says they’re victims.

Do you agree with that?

SCOTT: Yes. Anyone who attacks a police officer, whether on the Capitol grounds or anywhere else in the country, should serve time. The issue is the nonviolent people who were sitting outside, who were actually just protesting, or who came into the Capitol because the doors were open, who committed no crime, who committed no problem, who are in pretrial hearings today for crimes. This is terrible.

Some of them have been in pretrial detention for periods longer than the sentences imposed for their crimes.

But John, let me just say it briefly: The greatest threat to democracy today is Joe Biden. It started when he became president. The withdrawal from Afghanistan was botched, costing 13 American lives. Our southern border is wide open and unsecured, with potential sleeper cells in the country, over 100,000 Chinese nationals have crossed our southern border, and we have guys from Yemen, Iraq, and Afghanistan now living in the country. Part of an invasion of 10 million illegal immigrants.
