U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer was ready to take charge of the grill on Father’s Day, but couldn’t stand the heat after numerous food critics on social media questioned his skill with the spatula and pâté.
The Brooklyn-born senator initially posted a photo of himself on X, beaming as he stood in front of a grill munching on burger patties and hot dogs.
“We’ve lived in apartments all our lives, but my daughter and her wife just bought a house with a backyard and for the first time we’ll be grilling out hot dogs and burgers for a BBQ!,” Schumer tweeted. “Father’s Day Heaven!”
But commenters were quick to grill the New York lawmaker, questioning whether the cheese had been placed on top of the patty prematurely.
“Chuck, I love you but you put cheese on your burger AFTER it’s cooked,” one cheeky user said.
“Chuck, maybe you should cook that burger longer,” another person commented.
“I saw cheese on a raw patty,” former Republican Senatorial Committee member Matt Whitlock tweeted, along with a GIF of a concerned Steve Carell stalking away.
But some people came to the defence of the 73-year-old married father-of-two, with one user saying: “Please calm down everyone, this is not raw or cold, it’s just a veggie burger patty underneath a slice of tofu.”

“Chuck Schumer is actually doing better than me,” another user tweeted. “My Father’s Day ribeye was ruined today because of grease burning on the grill. Yay!”
Schumer deleted the tweet and photo after a flurry of criticism, but his Father’s Day message from Sunday morning remained up.
“Happy Father’s Day to all Dads!” he tweeted.
