This is the kind of thing you could never create even if you tried.
During Sunday’s game between the Fever and Sky, when Caitlin Clark attempted a layup and was fouled by Angel Reese, the ball flew into the stands and would have nearly hit a fan if not for the quick reaction of someone sitting next to her.
So who was that fan?
That person is none other than Jon Ledecky, uncle of famed American Olympic swimmer Katie Ledecky and co-owner of the Islanders.
And the person who saved the Isles owner from being hit by the ball was his nephew Michael, Katie Ledecky’s brother.
It was shared on Michael’s Instagram story. By USA Today columnist Christine BrennanA screenshot of the play shows Michael reaching out in front of the ball as it hurtles towards his uncle’s head.
“[Angel Reese’s] Fragrance 1 on [Caitlin Clark] “The same play saved Uncle John’s head,” Michael captioned the post.

Ledecky was on court video at the time the flagrant foul was made and had the play captured on camera.
Towards the end, an arm is briefly seen in the frame and then the phone appears to fall.

The Caitlin Clark phenomenon has been drawing a host of celebrities to Fever games this season, and she recently extended a warm welcome to an NHL owner who was apparently in Indianapolis to watch Katie Ledecky compete at the Olympic swimming meet in Indianapolis on Sunday.
Jon Ledecky has been co-owner of the Islanders with Scott Malkin since signing a deal to buy the team from the late Charles Wang in 2014.
The two took over majority ownership of the hockey team in 2016.
Clark scored a game-high 23 points, added nine assists and eight rebounds to help Indiana to a 93-81 victory.
