During a hearing on Tuesday, Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) grilled medical experts who disagree with the lab-leak theory about the origins of COVID-19.

Senator Paul questioned Dr. Robert Ghaly, a professor at the Tulane University School of Medicine, during an appearance before the Senate Homeland Security Committee, in which the senator criticized Dr. Ghaly for a lack of “bias” regarding the origins of COVID-19.

“So, just a few minutes ago, Dr. Garry told us that this couldn’t have come from bats, it had to have gone through an intermediate host. That may well be true, but the counterargument to that is that they’ve tested 90,000-odd animals and they haven’t found an animal host,” Paul said.

“But what he doesn’t say is that the animal host could also be a laboratory animal, and there could be a continual transmission of the virus through laboratory animals. And that’s one way of rapidly adapting and encouraging natural selection to adapt the virus to humans,” he continued.

“Dr Alina Chan has written extensively about how, rather than being misshapen and weakly contagious, this virus quickly emerged in humans in a highly contagious form, almost as if it had been pre-adapted in a laboratory,” he added.

Paul also took aim at Dr Anthony Fauci and others.

“I don’t know of any other publication in modern scientific history or publication that has stated with authority that a lab leak is impossible, that it wasn’t made in a lab, and yet said, personally, that this is not a conspiracy theory, or anything like that,” Paul said.

“I know there was a lot of back and forth with Dr. Fauci and the editors, they wanted the statement to be stronger, the conclusion to be stronger, because we are making a political point here. So we should have realized that we were off track, that these people are politicians and they are pushing ideas. As Dr. Collins eventually acknowledged in one of the emails, this is about science business with China,” he concluded.

Ghaly countered that there is evidence that COVID-19 leaked into the general public at least twice at a food market in Wuhan., the place where it is said to have originated.
