Amazon Prime Video will be releasing a new Bible series that will depict the lives of Bible characters such as King David, Saul, and Goliath. according to Variety magazineEgyptian-American actor Michael Iskander will play David in House of David, alongside Ali Suleiman as King Saul, Stephen Lang as Samuel, Martin Ford as Goliath and Israeli actress Ayelet Zurer as Ahinoam of Jezreel, one of David’s wives.
The series is the faith-based film studio’s first project Wonder ProjectCo-founder Jesus’ Revolution Director Jon Irwin and former Netflix executive Kelly Meryman Hoogstraten.
“I believe entertainment is at the top of culture, and right now the world needs a way to find common ground again,” Hoogstraten told Deadline. “Our goal here at The Wonder Project is to fill the world with hope.”
“We believe we can make a difference by telling stories that restore hope in things worth believing in: family, community, God and America,” she added. “We’ll do this at scale for audiences around the world who want faith- and values-based entertainment — and give them a brand they can call their own.”
“House of David is about a hero’s journey 3,000 years ago, and it all starts with Michael Iskander as David,” Irwin told Variety. “Discovering Michael and getting to work with him has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life. The entire cast is incredible, and I can’t wait for audiences around the world to get to know them as I have.”
CBN News Erwan reportedly came up with the idea for “House of David,” which will be Prime Video’s first project after inking a deal with Amazon-MGM Studios.
“House of David is the first project under this new deal, and we are laying the groundwork for a series of compelling and rewarding films and television shows,” said Irwin. “This marks a milestone for The Wonder Project, and we are thrilled to be working with a company that understands and supports our mission and audience in such an innovative way.”
The series “follows the once-mighty King Saul as he falls victim to his own pride. As a prophet prepares to overthrow him, he appoints an exiled shepherd boy, David, to be the second king. As Saul’s anger grows, David navigates love, violence and politics in the court of the very man he is destined to replace. Two kings. One kingdom. And it all ends in war,” according to a synopsis provided to the network. The Hollywood Reporter.
Dallas Jenkins, creator of the hit series “The Chosen,” is a majority shareholder and special advisor to the studio.
“When we met with John, Kelly and Dallas, we were inspired by their clear and passionate vision for The Wonder Project and their ambition to foster universal stories of love, triumph and spirituality,” said Vernon Sanders, head of television for Amazon-MGM Studios. “We’re incredibly excited about the scope, scale and storyline of House of David and look forward to sharing this epic production and many more with Prime Video customers around the world.”
Production on House of David is currently underway in Greece.
