During Tuesday’s episode of CNN’s “The Situation Room,” Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.) responded to a question about whether the Gaza aid pier built by the Biden administration had failed because of numerous setbacks and little aid, saying, “I don’t think people understand how complicated this is,” and that “this is a lot more complicated than we would have liked.”
Moderator Wolf Blitzer asked, “First, I want to ask about this news we just heard: US docks off the coast of Gaza are failing one after another, and very little aid is getting to the Palestinians. Is it time to say this is a failed mission?”
Slotkin responded: “I don’t think people understand how complicated this is. It sounds easy when you say it, but obviously, I think you’ve heard that it’s more complicated than we would have liked. I don’t know if we’re ready to give up. I’ll leave that to the military. But we need to get more humanitarian supplies into Gaza. The pier was already a stopgap measure to get additional aid in because the land route wasn’t being used the way I would have liked. So we have to figure out how to get that aid in. Even without the pier, we need more land routes to get supplies into Gaza.”
