Trump to get final word at CNN debate after coin flip

Former President Trump will make the final remarks in next week’s first presidential debate, following a coin toss, CNN announced Thursday.

The Biden campaign chose tails in the coin toss, winning the chance to choose the presidential position in exchange for a speaking slot, with Biden standing on the right side of the stage from the audience’s perspective and Trump on the left.

Biden will be the first to make his closing arguments, as the Trump campaign opted to speak last.

CNN has announced that the two candidates, Biden and Trump, will debate on the stage next Thursday night in Atlanta, with anchors Dana Bash and Jake Tapper chosen to host the debate.

This is the first of two debates agreed to by the candidates and is expected to include a series of new rules.

During the debate, microphones are muted except when it is a candidate’s turn to speak, and the rules also state that the moderator can “take all necessary steps to ensure that the debate is timely and respectful.”

Also, unlike past debates, there will be no studio audience.

The 2020 election debate was marred by interruptions and altercations, with moderators struggling to keep Biden and Trump in check, and Maggie Haberman of The New York Times noted on Wednesday that Trump acknowledged multiple times that he interrupted Biden “too often” during the first 2020 debate.

Independent Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was not eligible to participate in the debate, and Green Party candidate Jill Stein filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission on Thursday about her exclusion.

The second debate will be held at ABC on September 10th.
