International Brotherhood of Teamsters President Sean O’Brien to Speak at RNC Convention

Sean O’Brien, president of the International Federation of Trucking Leaders, has formally accepted former President Donald Trump’s invitation to speak at the Republican National Convention (RNC) in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Trump announced on Friday.

“Sean O’Brien, president of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, has accepted my invitation to speak at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee,” Trump said in a Truth Social post announcing the union leader’s acceptance.

Trump continued:

Our great convention will unite the American people and show our nation’s working families that they come first. When I return to the White House, hardworking Teamsters and all working Americans will once again have a country they can afford to live in and be respected around the world.

“Shawn, I look forward to you representing the Teamsters in Milwaukee. Together, let’s Make America Great Again,” he added.

As Breitbart News reported in January, the Teamsters political committee donated $45,000 to the Republican National Committee, its first donation in 20 years. The donation reportedly came on the same day that Trump met with Teamsters leaders, as he continues to build rapport with members.

The powerful union has historically supported Democrats, donating $135,000 to the Democratic National Committee in December and $15,000 in March 2023, but this is its first donation to the Republican National Committee since it last donated $15,000 in 2004, the Post reported.

The donation reportedly infuriated some of the union’s left-wing leaders and members, but Trump is popular among many rank-and-file members. post report.

O’Brien’s participation is significant because the Teamsters supported Hillary Clinton, who lost the presidential election twice, in 2016 and President Joe Biden in 2020.
