New York Yankees pitcher Carlos Rodon was looking to bounce back against the Atlanta Braves after giving up five runs in his last appearance in Boston.
Instead of a strong performance, Rodon was booed off the streets of the Bronx after allowing seven earned runs and 11 hits, three of which were home runs, prompting manager Aaron Boone to hand him another blowout loss to the pinstriped Yankees at Yankee Stadium.
The Yankees lost the weekend series opener to the Braves, 8-1, but the day after were thrashed 17-5 by the Baltimore Orioles after rookie star Luis Gil, who led the AL in ERA, got off to his worst start of the season.

So Yankees fans watched another disappointing performance from their starting pitcher and let Rodon know how they felt — and it seemed the slump got Rodon emotional, too.
The Apple TV broadcast showed Rodon in the Yankees dugout, staring blankly at the field with what appeared to be teary eyes, after being substituted. Rodon is off to a terrible start to the 2024 season at a time when the Yankees were looking to bounce back.
Yankees legend Derek Jeter is tired of questions about Hall of Fame rejection, says voters should take responsibility
Add to that a five-earned run loss to the Red Sox last weekend and it’s clear Rodon was feeling something in the moment.
Gleyber Torres, who didn’t bat for the Yankees on Thursday because of a groin strain, echoed the same sentiment as he sat next to Rodon.
Like any good teammate would, Torres slapped Rodon on the shoulder and offered words of encouragement, and even gave Rodon a quick hug when the broadcast returned to the game.
After the match, Rodon wasn’t shy about taking on the boos directed at him.

“Obviously I didn’t play to the best of my ability, that’s how it goes here,” he said. New York Post.
The Yankees’ pitching staff has struggled recently, despite a 51-27 record. From the 10th inning on Wednesday night until Rodon was replaced, the team had given up a run in every inning except for one. The Yankees had given up 27 runs in 14 innings, which is clearly not how a winning team plays.
New York still leads the American League East but is off to a poor start against the Braves after losing consecutive games to division rivals the Red Sox and Orioles for the first time this season.

The Yankees will be hoping for better luck with Marcus Stroman when he takes on Charlie Morton on Saturday night in the Bronx. Stroman has a 3.08 ERA this season but gave up four earned runs on seven hits to the Red Sox in last Sunday’s loss.
