“I think the president is going to be a big part of it,” said Marla Massie, who is running against Rep. John Rutherford (R-Fla.) in Florida’s 5th Congressional District. Breitbart News Saturday What was the cause? Declaration of Military Responsibility And just hours before a campaign event at Jekyll Brewery in Jacksonville Beach, Florida, she spoke about how she got involved in politics.
Massie explained that she has paid attention to politics since high school, but as a military wife, she never realized how important local politics were because she was constantly moving and it was hard to stay interested.
“So we kept moving and I kept following national politics, not realising that even though I was following federal politics avidly, I was actually a low-information voter,” she explained of her revelation.
“I didn’t realize that until you actually look into these people, you don’t know as much as you think you know. Where are their funds coming from? Who are they accountable to? Because if they’re not accountable to the American people, then they’re accountable to somebody else, and that’s usually a lobbyist or a PAC,” she said.
As a military wife, she and her husband became deeply involved in politics after the COVID-19 vaccine mandate was announced. Her husband was one of the thousands of people who refused to get vaccinated, whether for religious or medical reasons. However, many of those requests for exemptions were rejected. She said she and her husband formed allies in the military community and worked with lawyers to find ways to avoid ingesting these government-mandated medical products, such as masks and PCR tests.
After all, Massie’s husband was a whistleblower who exposed data from the Defense Medical Epidemiology Database, which led to an investigation being launched against him and retaliation.
“They can’t recruit. They can’t retain. And it’s all because they don’t care about the people. All they care about is pushing woke policies,” Massie said, explaining that it was hard to get help or answers from lawmakers at the time. She said many people tried to contact members of the Armed Services Committee, but individuals had to be voters to go through the form.
“So if you don’t have representation on that committee, you’re out of luck. This is a common theme across the country,” she said, noting that Rep. Rutherford, the man she’s challenging, is similarly relatively inaccessible.

She said the widely circulated Military Accountability Declaration “provided a pathway for military people to hold accountable the leadership that has failed the military and created retention and recruitment problems.”
“And we have basically vowed to take back control of leadership through holding people accountable at the local level, holding people accountable at the federal level, and unseating people from public office,” she said, explaining that many of those who signed the declaration will be taking part in Saturday’s election campaign.
