Trump Leads Biden, Garners Nearly 1/4 of Black Voter Support

A recent CBS News/YouGov poll found former President Donald Trump narrowly beating President Joe Biden, garnering the support of about a quarter of Black voters.

The poll showed Trump leading Biden with 50 percent of respondents’ support, while Biden was one point behind with 49 percent.

In other words, although it’s a virtual tie, Trump continues to edge out Biden even after various lawsuits against him, the most recent example being the guilty verdict by a Manhattan jury in Trump’s business records trial.

Biden leads Trump by 23 points among voters under 30, but Trump leads Biden by one point (50 percent to 49 percent) among voters between 30 and 44. Trump’s lead has widened to 53 percent to 47 percent among adults 45 to 64, and to 55 percent to Biden’s 45 percent among adults 65 and older.

Among independents, Biden has a 50% approval rating to Trump’s 49%, making the two essentially neck and neck. Among white adults, Trump leads Biden with 57% support to Biden’s 43%. Biden leads Trump among black adults with 75% approval, but Trump still has the support of 24% of black adults, a key stat for the Republican candidate.

The survey was conducted June 17-21 among 1,878 adults.

This reality comes as Trump has continued to challenge Democrats in their hometowns throughout his campaign, including holding a rally in the Bronx in May to appeal directly to minority voters.

“We love Trump,” Trump told the crowd, who were chanting, “Four more years” and “Build the wall!”

African-Americans are losing real income by 5.6 percent. African-Americans are being slaughtered. Hispanic-Americans are being slaughtered. And the biggest impact, the biggest negative impact on the millions of people who are coming into this country is on blacks and Hispanics. They’re losing their jobs, they’re losing their homes, they’re losing everything that they could lose.

“They are the ones who are most affected by what’s going on, not just the fact that their schools are closed, their parks are closed, their hospitals are closed,” Trump continued.

In New York alone, Trump leads Biden among independents by double digits but trails Biden by single digits in the overall race — a worrying development for Democrats trying to defend their turf.
