Comedian and podcast host Adam Carolla said he was joining the exodus from California and slammed Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom as a “sociopath.”
Wednesday’s “Sage Steele ShowWhen asked why he still lives in Los Angeles, Carolla groaned loudly and replied, “It’s terrible.”
After telling host Sage Steele that she grew up in Los Angeles and that her comedic roots were built in the city, Carolla insisted that “it’s time to move.”

“I have twins and they’re in their senior year of high school and I didn’t want to uproot them, so people always ask me, ‘When are you leaving?’ I’m going to get in a U-Haul and go to their high school graduation,” Carola joked.
“It’s also a sad testament to California and the recent recession of LA, because none of us who grew up here left. It would have been foolish to leave. The idea of leaving LA to go to the Carolinas or Nashville…if you watch the beginning of 90210, they lived here and then they came to where we are. I was already there,” he said. “Moving to a place like Wyoming would have been unimaginable and unheard of.”

He hinted that his desperate desire to get out of California meant he was considering moving to “15 places,” including Texas, Florida, the Carolinas and Tennessee, but he had officially “made up his mind” to move.
“It’s sad, because I don’t even have a place to go,” Carolla says. “It’s not like, ‘I want to spend the rest of my life retiring in Maui,’ or ‘I have bronchitis so I have to move to Arizona.’ This is different. This is just having to leave. I don’t even know where I’m going. This is not cheating on you for another woman. This is, ‘I hate you so much. I’m going to move to a motel and not date for six years.'”
California migration continues as conservative states attract Democrats: report
Carola called California’s problems “self-inflicted” and “highly avoidable,” and argued that the state never “put its foot on the brakes.”
“I ask a lot of people when it’s going to end, when it’s going to turn around, and the most common answer is, ‘We haven’t hit bottom yet. We’re almost there. We haven’t hit bottom yet.’ And I say, ‘Why do we have to hit bottom?'” wonders Carola. “That’s like saying, ‘I was looking in my son’s room for stuff, and I found syringes and bags of heroin, but he hasn’t stopped yet, OK? I haven’t walked in his room and seen him foaming at the mouth or having convulsions.’ And you say, ‘Yes, I know, but why don’t we get him treated right now?’ And you say, ‘His heart hasn’t stopped yet.’ And it’s like, ‘Yes, I know, but why do we have to hit bottom?’ We know where we’re going. Let’s turn it around. We can’t do that in California and Los Angeles.”

He went on to point to the 2021 recall effort to oust Newsom and “we elected him again,” followed by the election of Democratic Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, claiming she won because she’s a “woman of color” and that her “very qualified” opponent, Rick Caruso, was rejected because he’s “old,” “white” and “rich.”
“We get what we deserve, and we should get what we deserve,” Carola told Steele. “So I said to my mom right before she passed away, ‘Look, I’d rather have Larry Elder for governor than Newsom,’ and she said, ‘I don’t know.’ And what’s crazy is, because she’s a super progressive white woman, and just because Larry Elder is black doesn’t mean anything to her because he’s on the wrong side, right? … And she said, ‘I don’t know who Larry Elder is, but I know Gavin Newsom is a Democrat.’ And I said, that’s how we’re going to vote. Like Dumbo’s mom. Like, stay with Gavin Newsom or die. And I said, can we just admit we’re wrong and try something else? And she said, ‘No, you can’t.'”

Carolla slammed Newsom, calling him a “narcissistic bastard” and a “sly eel with no substance.”
“He doesn’t say anything. He doesn’t say anything,” Carola said. “He’s a sociopath, an egocentric, empty person. And we vote for this guy. He doesn’t say anything.”
“There’s no need to do that,” Steele replied.
“He doesn’t have to. That’s the scary thing about this equation,” Carolla exclaimed. “My mother is voting for Gavin Newsom no matter what that motherfucker does. And he’s insane.”

Carolla recalled that during an interview with Newsom in 2013, the then-lieutenant governor suggested that only black and Hispanic residents would be victims of predatory check-cashing offices. Amidst the tense virus exchange.
“He’s an idiot. He’s an idiot,” Carolla said. “I asked him what’s going on with traffic. Traffic in Los Angeles is terrible, the worst in the world. Why aren’t we doing something? Why isn’t there a plan? Where is the person in charge of traffic? What is going on?” he said. He said, “I saw this sign. I kind of like it. It says, ‘You’re not in traffic. You are the traffic.’ It doesn’t make any sense. That’s basically how he talks.”

“Ten years ago I said to him, ‘Look, we have a homeless problem, and the homeless problem is people with mental illness and drug addiction. That’s homelessness.’ And he said, ‘Let me tell you what homelessness really is: a divorced mother of two who has a full-time minimum wage job and has nowhere to go.’ And I said, ‘That’s not homeless! That’s a drug addict with mental illness.’ And he tried to explain to me that 10 years ago the real definition of homelessness was a sober mother of two who’s recently divorced and has a full-time job at McDonald’s,” he continued.
“He’s a narcissist and a dim-witted idiot and nobody knows that. I don’t know. Or maybe Californians are just too stupid to know who he is,” Carolla stressed, later adding, “The real problem, going back to my late mother, is they can’t get back on track. They can’t just say, ‘I made a mistake. This guy is an idiot. I shouldn’t have voted for him.'”
