Wife of Raiders coach Antonio Pierce files for bankruptcy

Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce was named in his wife’s bankruptcy filing in Phoenix on June 12 and is listed as a surety on a judgment of more than $28 million.

Pierce, whom the Raiders hired in January as the team’s full-time head coach, invested millions of dollars in a car dealership that the couple defaulted on a mortgage in the 2010s. According to court documents Sports law reporter Jason Morin posted this to X on Tuesday.

Jocelyn Pierce, a real estate agent married to the former Super Bowl-winning linebacker, claims she did not sign any personal guarantees on the loan.

In her filing, Mrs. Pierce asks for an extension of the deadline to file the proper paperwork, arguing that “the debtors were forced to file hastily with little preparation in order to protect their own assets and the marital property from Mr. Pierce’s judgment creditors.”

Pierce was reportedly named as surety on a $23 million judgment from Nissan Motor Acceptance Corporation and a $4.5 million judgment from Hyundai Capital America.

The companies recently tried to garnish Pierce’s wages, according to the documents.

“During the 2010s, Mr. Pierce was persuaded to invest in car dealerships,” court documents filed in Arizona federal bankruptcy court state. “Mr. Pierce was required to sign various documents even though he was merely a passive investor with no oversight or management of the business. Although the Debtors have no direct knowledge of this event, a personal guarantee was later filed in Mr. Pierce’s name.”

“Several of the companies defaulted on their loans, causing lenders to obtain judgments against the companies and their guarantor, Mr. Pierce. Debtors have been informed that these judgments amount to more than $28 million.”

Pierce, who won a Super Bowl as a linebacker for the Giants in 2008, and his wife have yet to publicly comment on the situation.

The Raiders stripped Pierce of his interim head coaching position and hired him full-time in January to replace Josh McDaniels.

Pierce led Las Vegas to a 5-4 record to finish the 2023 season after firing Coach McDaniels.

The former Pro Bowl linebacker got his team to embrace his system and captivated the locker room with a culture built around the Raider Way.

Pierce participated in the Raiders’ OTAs and mandatory minicamp.
