Ford is recalling more than 550,000 pickup trucks in the US due to potential transmission issues. The news comes after the company previously announced recalls.
The problem affects some 2014 F-150 pickup trucks, the Associated Press reports. report Tuesday, indicating the transmission may suddenly downshift into first gear.
The AP article continues that this problem could cause drivers to lose control and risk a serious crash.
The recall was announced by U.S. auto safety regulators in March. An investigation into the complaint has been launched More than 540,000 Ford pickup trucks built since 2014 may suddenly downshift into a lower gear, increasing the risk of a crash.
According to the document, the issue is caused by a loss of signal between the transmission speed sensor and the powertrain control computer, and may also be caused by corrosion or a failed connector pin.
Dealers will update the powertrain control software free of charge to owners, who will be notified by letter in early July.
In April, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration officials began investigating Ford’s recall of more than 42,000 SUVs over a problem with leaking fuel injectors that could pose a fire hazard, UPI reported at the time.
“In 2022, Ford issued a similar recall for 500,000 Bronco Sport and Escape vehicles built between 2020 and 2023 due to a broken fuel injector that could leak fuel or vapors, causing engine fires,” the news outlet reported.
About 870,000 Ford F-150 pickup trucks are being recalled in 2023 because of a wiring fault that could cause the parking brake to activate on its own, according to Breitbart News.
The outlet reported in January that Ford was planning to scale back production of the F-150 Lightning, an all-electric pickup truck that has been praised by President Joe Biden.
“Ford’s EV production cuts are yet another sticking point for the Biden administration, which is trying to push an EV mandate and push EVs onto American consumers and automakers,” the article said.
