Florida woman ran over boyfriend with car while he was holding their toddler: sheriff

A Florida woman was jailed Monday after allegedly intentionally running over her boyfriend and his 16-month-old son during an argument, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Grady Judd said Tuesday that the incident began when 27-year-old Aaliyah Ross was arguing with her boyfriend at her home. The boyfriend, who is Ross’s father of 16 months, decided he needed to go outside to calm down and took the child with him. But instead of calming down, he threw a cinderblock at Ross’s car.

Ross became angry and forced her two children, ages 4 and 6 months, into the car before getting in the driver’s seat, police said. FOX 13 Tampa Bay.

She then “lunged” her car once toward her boyfriend and the toddler, then drove toward them again, hitting them both, Judd said.

Judd said Ross continued driving and crashed into a neighbor’s house, after which she carried her injured son home while her boyfriend went to hospital to be treated for his injuries.

She left her child, who Judd said was in “critical condition,” alone at home and went to her sister’s house in Orlando, where she was later arrested by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

Judd said her boyfriend ran back into the house, picked up their son and took them both to the hospital. The two other young children were also found and the Florida Department of Children and Families is reviewing a parenting plan.

“Obviously, we’re not happy with her conduct. She’s clearly violated every law in the state of Florida,” Judd said.

The boyfriend was treated for lung and body bruising and released from the hospital, FOX 13 reported. The toddler suffered multiple injuries, including a broken left shoulder and collarbone, broken ribs, a partially collapsed lung, and abrasions and bruises on her body.

He remains hospitalized in a Tampa hospital, Judd said.

When questioned by investigators, Ross told officers he had pretended to run over his girlfriends several times in the past, only to change lanes at the last moment to avoid hitting them, and that he thought they would avoid him, FOX 13 reported.

“Are you saying she’s crazy? We’ve got a crazy woman here,” Judd said, showing an arrest photo of Ross.
