US soccer star Alex Morgan ‘disappointed’ by Olympics snub: ‘Close to my heart’

American Soccer Star Alex Morgan In a shocking decision announced on Wednesday, he was removed from the Olympic team roster.

Morgan, who turns 35 next week, reacted to the news on social media, saying he was “disappointed” by the outcome.

“Today, I am disappointed that I did not get the opportunity to represent my country. The Olympic stage. This tournament has always been important to me and I feel great pride every time I wear the crest,” she wrote in her X post.

“I look forward to cheering on this team and cheering on the nation together in less than a month. LFG.”

The 18-player roster was announced Wednesday and includes eight players who competed in the Tokyo Olympics in 2020. The U.S. team won the bronze medal behind Canada and Sweden.

The list also includes 10 players from the 2023 FIFA Women’s Football National Team. World Cup Team.

“It is a great privilege and honour to be selected for the Olympic team. There was strong competition amongst the athletes and there were undeniably difficult decisions to make, especially given how hard they have all trained over the last 10 months,” coach Emma Hayes said in a statement.

“A lot of consideration went into the selection of our 18 players and substitutes but we are excited with the group we have chosen and are looking to build on the successes from our last camp as we head to the send-off match and then to France. This is a great opportunity to continue to showcase the progress we are making.”

Four other players, Jane Campbell, Hal Hirschfeld, Cloix Bethune and Lynn Williams, were named as alternates.

Morgan has missed more than a month of play with the San Diego Wave since injuring his left ankle on April 19 and also missed last weekend’s game for legitimate reasons.

The U.S. has won four Olympic gold medals, more than any other team, but has not won a gold medal since the London 2012 Games. The women’s national team fell to fifth in the latest FIFA rankings, its lowest ranking ever.
